Action Wren, Percival Christopher: Beau Geste (1924), v2, 18 Aug 2019

The adventures of three English Geste brothers (Beau, Digby and John) who enlist separately in the French Foreign Legion following the theft of a valuable jewel from the country house of a relative. Published in 1924, the novel is set in the period before World War I.

Memorable for the eerie opening scene at abandoned, burning Fort Zinderneuf. Filmed several times.

138,000 words.

Only one edition appears in the Library, in the .prc format. I have remade the book, and provided a cover, from the 1920s "cheap edition" dust jacket, which required considerable retouching and new text due to decrepitude.

I also had to re-insert all the (many) em-dashes, which were represented in the .prc file by hyphens.

Thread title needs a little adjustment so that it will be indexed properly.

P.C. Wreb is not a particularly well-known author :-)
