Orange vs Yellow "comfort" LEDs

I was looking at the eBook Reader's video review of the Oasis 3 and realized the "comfort" light range matched my Tolino Vision 4 (more yellow than orange). I had recently seen video reviews for the Pocketbook Touch HD 3 and it seemed to have the same comfort light range as well.

The Oasis 3 review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pfS6a2TreFo

But when I was able to test the Nook Glowlight 3 and, as the videos I've seen of Kobo eReaders show, these are a much darker orange. I'm just curious what causes this drastic difference? Different screen makers? It seems like it's an either/or thing. It's either the darker orange screens or the lighter (almost) yellow screens. Or is it just how each maker chooses to adjust or "mix" the LED light?

At any rate, just curious if anyone knows what the deal is here.

I would guess different LEDs to illuminate the screen.

I'm pretty sure all eInk devices get their screens from the same manufacturer, eInk. I believe the 6" Kindle, Clara and Glowlight 3 all use the same screen.

At any rate, eInk screens themselves don't produce light. The difference would be in the LEDs used. I haven't seen a Tolino or Oasis 3, but it sounds like they use yellow LEDs and the Clara and Glowlight 3 use orange.

I guess I should have said the "light assembly" or "layer," including the LEDs. Sorry. Just out of curiosity, do you know how many LEDs the Glowlight Plus (original one), Glowlight 3 and Kobo Clara have? I know the Nooks put the LEDs on the top of the screen instead of the bottom, but I'm wondering if they're basically the same other than that.

Sure, but for large enough orders, the customer can probably specify (within constraints) which LEDs are used.

All LED's are on the edge and use a lightguide to distribute the light. See Front light@Wiki » in our wiki to see how this works. Contrast this to backlight@Wiki ».

I understand that. I was just curious about the differences in LED color and placement of LEDs.

I don't remember offhand. Various reviews will mention how many LEDs are in the device and usually how many are white or orange. Considering one of the steady suppliers of such info is GoodEreader, you have to question how accurate the info is.
