I started formatting this back in August and one thing or another and it got pushed aside. I found it tonight when I was cleaning up and backing up the hard disk.

Dr. Drib has already posted Irving's other classic (and perfect for the coming Halloween period), The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.

This is a story of the history of New York as told by Diedrich Knickerbocker in 1809. Originally published in two volumes, both volumes are included in this one ebook. It is a wonderfully funny and rich history that at times even gets something right.

When it was published it was a blockbuster. The name knickerbocker has stayed in use for almost 200 years and is still used today. The name of the NBA team from New York City is the Knickerbockers or Knics (or Nics) for short.
