Portraits in Shadow:
The Collected Supernatural Stories of
Hugh Walpole (1884–1941)

Tales for reading after dark… Many are very chilling indeed, while some are only lightly touched by the supernatural. Clever character studies and unnerving psychological suspense create a singular reading experience.

Sir Hugh Seymour Walpole, CBE (13 March 1884 – 1 June 1941) was an English novelist. He was a prolific and popular best-selling author in the 1920s and 1930s but has been largely neglected since his death. Walpole’s output was large and varied, including disturbing studies of the macabre, children’s stories and historical fiction.
