R. Austin Freeman (1862-1943) was a medical practitioner forced to retire in 1904 because of ill health. He wrote many detective novels and short stories, some with other authors.</p>

The Uttermost Farthing was subtitled A Savant's Vendetta. It was published in England in 1913, and is a sardonic horror story about a man whose wife is murdered by a burglar, and his revenge.
