First published in serial form May to December, 1882, in Good Words and in book form in 1882. Trollope died during the last month of serial publication.

A novel about male double standards and how female submission is expected in marriage.
Cecilia Holt engages herself to marry the despicable Sir Francis Geraldine. But when she finds out that he is despicable, she rapidly disengages herself. Shortly afterwards, she meets Mr Western, who is recovering from a similar experience. He tells her all about it, but she finds that it is rather tactless to say, ‘me too’ so stays quiet. They marry. All hell explodes when he finds out.

I have added a picture, TOC and curly quotes.
