Dion Fortune was the working name of Violet Mary Firth, 1890-1946, who was an occultist and spiritualist, author, and occasional novelist. Most of her work was on occult/spiritualist themes. She was at various times associated with Irish occultist Theodore Moriarty (the model for Dr Taverner), the Theosophical Society, and eventually founded her own occult ceremonial group.

These stories were published in the Royal Magazine during 1922, and collected into this book in 1926.

The magazine editions, along with the original magazine illustrations, can be found in Roy Glashan's Library, an on-line free digital book library.

Apologies: the magazine versions at Roy Glashan's Library don't have magazine illustrations because, I think, there were none.
