Ben Bolt was a pseudonym of Ottwell Binns (1872-1935), a prolific author of adventure and thriller novels.

It's hard if not impossible to tell the difference between the two, so the pseudonym was probably just to ease the burden of having 2 or 3 or more novels published each year by the same author.

This is an adventure thriller, set in and around London, involving a kidnapped son of a Chicago millionaire, the son also being a diplomatic courier in possession of secret documents. There are Chicago gangsters behind the kidnapping, and to complicate the issue, Japanese secret agents are in pursuit of the young man and the documents.

(The author, in common with practically all British writers of the time, had no idea what American gangsters spoke like... nor, for that matter, American cops.)
