As for how bad it is, It was made with InDesign 11.3 and from there, edited with Sigil 0.8.901. Whoever made this should be fired. Here's the CSS and all it's glory.

All but two of the stories were collaborations. "Anne-Droid" of Green Gables (my favorite by far) was by Ms. Robyn alone. "Hunting the Snark" (yes, Lewis Carroll in space) was by Mike Resnick alone.
All of the stories in this collection are about "companionship" and are largely light-hearted. Sometimes I don't read enough humorous science fiction. Some of the stories, however, are heart-wrenching.
These stories are also universal. In fact, quite a few have been translated into other languages and either have been nominated for or won literary prizes in other countries.
In short, this Soulmates short story collection is a special treat not to be missed!!"

Well the stylesheet is 10k and uses Times New Roman font, you would think that designers would know by now that Times New Roman in contraindicated for use by monitors and ereaders.
It will take me may 10 minutes at the most to beat the stylesheet into order. No where as bad as a book done using Vellum,

Took about 5 minutes to do the basic cleanup (add body and p in the stylesheet, remove the font-family and justified). Makes it readable.
As for Vellum? I've done too many books for my wife so now 99% of the work is done by a set of saved searches plus running CSSUndefinedClasses and CSSRemoveUnusedSelectors. I'm not looking for perfect but definitely the final result is readable.
And the first page is blank with no cover.
And speaking of the code, look at this titlepage. All it does is display the titlepage. Given that in the OPF it says it was made with InDesign 11.3, how did this happen?

Halfway Human as a freebie.
While I enjoyed the book 20 years ago and couldn't resist picking the free ebook, the epub version needs some TLC. The entire book is stuffed into one file with no attempt at pretty printing, no stylesheet so inline style all over the place and such oddments as using multiple spans within a single word to make the work italic. See the sample below as a fine example of ugly printing:

The latest email I received from
Phoenix Pick / Arc Manor has Carolyn Ives Gilman's
Halfway Human as a freebie.
While I enjoyed the book 20 years ago and couldn't resist picking the free ebook, the epub version needs some TLC. The entire book is stuffed into one file with no attempt at pretty printing, no stylesheet so inline style all over the place and such oddments as using multiple spans within a single word to make the work italic. See the sample below as a fine example of ugly printing:
