Sir Clinton Driffield gets involved in a case close to home: his niece seems to be falling victim too a "white slave" operation, which involved European showgirls getting lucrative contracts for stage shows in the Argentine, but which in fact are for no such thing, but something much darker.

(The story is based on, among other things, a League of Nations report on the matter).

There is a shocking climax.
