Not really much to the update. Apparently, the usual September event has been pushed back to late October.

It looks like it is mostly to roll out their new Exposure Notifications Express system for tracking COVID-19 exposure cases. I guess they thought that warranted using a "major release" label. Some bug fixes too, of course.

I have never heard of any iOS update deleting content.

Like others here, I updated my iPhone XR and my iPad mini 5 without having any app content deleted. I don’t remember ever having that issue with any iOS or iPadOS update. Nevertheless, nothing bizarre from iOS 13.x or iPadOS 13.x would surprise me much anymore. You should report this to Apple CS.

BTW, which device(s) did this occur on?

Pretty much the only time I've seen this is when you do an update via your computer and install as a new device rather than as an update. Most of us just update via the settings on the device. No idea how the OP did their update though.
