A new version of the Kindle Previewer is available. It will finally show you why a book failed to support Enhanced Typesetting (KFX).

New in Kindle Previewer 3.38.0:

1) You can now see why your book fails Enhanced Typesetting in the conversion log.

2) Large Data Tables Support for ET books in Kindle previewer. (NOTE: Large tables might appear blurry when viewed using Kindle Previewer on low-resolution display screens. You can safely ignore this as customers reading on a Kindle device or application will not see this issue).

3) Other conversion improvements.

Well, the failure reasons are certainly welcome. We fortunately don't get a lot of those, but nonetheless, they are still needed. Glad to hear it.

One of the new error messages I came across reported by the new Kindle Previewer version contains a link to an Amazon web page with additional guidance as follows:

Quote
Enhanced Typesetting Guidance

The option to upload a book without correcting this Enhanced Typesetting error will end on September 20, 2020. After that date, please use the alternative provided in the report to publish the title on Kindle.

For any questions, please connect with the customer support channels available.
It appears that Amazon plans to get serious about enforcing the availability of Enhanced Typesetting in published books.

I noticed that in the guidance message (from my previous post) the date for fixing problems that prevent Enhanced Typesetting has been updated to October 27, 2020.

I am assuming that Amazon is not actually going to hold anyone to that date since they have not announced it publicly as far as I know.

I wonder whether the pandemic caused them to back off on their plan to require Enhanced Typesetting compatibility and if a new firm date will be set eventually.

EDIT: It looks like Amazon is going ahead with the above date. See Amazon October 2020 File Ingestion Requirement for details.
