Engaging regional New England tales from the end of the 19th century. A number of nicely observed, delicate stories about family and friend dynamics; some morality tales, and several charming fables for adults with a fairytale feel.

Published posthumously in 1920, these stories were selected by Wynne’s close friend and companion, Annie Cabot Putnam (1850–1924); and her son, Philip H. Wynne (1868–1919).

Madeline Yale Wynne (September 25, 1847 - January 4, 1918) was an American artist, teacher, writer, poet, and philanthropist.

She is mostly known for her small oeuvre of supernatural stories, and for her involvement in the arts and crafts movement in the early nineteenth century.
