Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom 2003-01-09 A novel by Cory Doctorow

Quote
Jules is a young man barely a century old. He's lived long enough to see the cure for death and the end of scarcity, to learn ten languages and compose three symphoniesÂ…and to realize his boyhood dream of taking up residence in Disney World. Disney World! The greatest artistic achievement of the longago twentieth century. Now in the care of a network of volunteer "adhocs" who keep the classic attractions running as they always have, enhanced with only the smallest hightech touches. Now, though, it seems the "ad hocs" are under attack. A new group has taken over the Hall of the Presidents and is replacing its venerable audioanimatronics with new, immersive directtobrain interfaces that give guests the illusion of being Washington, Lincoln, and all the others. For Jules, this is an attack on the artistic purity of Disney World itself. Worse: it appears this new group has had Jules killed. This upsets him. (It's only his fourth death and revival, after all.) Now it's war: war for the soul of the Magic Kingdom, a war of evershifting reputations, technical wizardry, and entirely unpredictable outcomes. Bursting with cutting-edge speculation and human insight, Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom reads like Neal Stephenson meets Nick Hornby: a comingofage romantic comedy and a kickbutt cybernetic tour de force.

This is a better version than is currently available at craphound.com. Have you considered forwarding your work to Cory's site?

I've remade this following HarryT's tutorial and it came out fine. I know I have two cover images. But I didn't want to have to redo it to remove one of them. The first-page and ToC links now work. Also the metadata is correct as well.

This book is not working in FBReader. Probably because a secret compression method was used.

How can a secret compression method be used? It was made with Mobipocket Creator according to HarryT's tutorial. So maybe FBReader is at fault here. Dunno.

Perhaps "undocumented" would be a better word than "secret".

Well, if you ask them about the format they will not give you any details so I think secret format is the best term.

The problem is probably that you used the compression level that is not recommended to use other than for very big files like dictionaries.

This file also crashes the Cybook Gen3 when you try to open it. The large images trigger the image related bug in the Gen3.

What is the max size the Gen3 can handle? I can redo this to fix it.
