There are no downloads, and this section and its sub-sections are purely for your reference. When a book becomes compliant with "Life+70", it will be uploaded to the main library, and will once again be available for downloading.
Note to those that posted these eBooks. It may be that it was only the illustrations were copyrighted. If you know the author or translator has been dead more than 70 years you might want to post an unillustrated version of the eBook. Remember the cover could also be copyrighted.

The New Posts link in the site header -- the "- w/o E-book Uploads" one -- does not exclude this subforum. Probably irrelevant though. I did find two books that were recent enough to still be in the New Posts list...
Perhaps someone could help me - I posted the book "Robert Helmont, Diary of a recluse" which was published in 1888. The Author (Alphonse Daudet) died in 1897. However the book is a translation prior to 1888 by Laura Ensor and was illustrated by Picard and Montegut (again prior to 1888).

The book is now in the "offline" section.

There is little point in my purging the book of illustrations if it is the translator who falls foul of the 70year limit, however I can find no biographical information about her or the illustrators.

I would expect people working before 1888 to be dead by 1947 but cannot prove it as all we have is a name for them and Google has not turned up anything.

How do I resolve this - is it a matter of if there is no clear evidence then it's assumed the book contravenes the 70+ limit or does someone know if it is the translator or the illustrator who was alive until 1947 ?

The reason the book is in the offline section is that one of the illustrators, Picard, died in 1946, so the book will enter the life+70 public domain on 1st Jan 2017.

I'd just wait: it's not all that far off.

If there is evidence that this Georges Picard is not the illustrator, let us know.
Thanks for the explanation - the problem I had was that it simply quoted "Picard and Montegut" as Illustrators and without George Picards's given name it was difficult to find out anything about him or his collaborator Montegut.

My compliments to those whose diligence exposed what I had been unable to discover. I thought an 1888 book would now be clear of copyright but this one serves as an illustration (no pun intended) of the pitfalls of such assumptions. Authors are reasonably easy to check up on, translators and illustrators less so.

A warning email would have been nice (stating the why) so that uploaders could correct things easier. Of course I realize that would be rather difficult in the case of two of the biggest 'offline' contributors as both Patricia and rwood are no longer with us.
Like traveling back in time and killing the author a few years earlier (but not before he/she wrote the work!)

Yes, I'm kidding, I know you mean removing illustrations, introductions or other additional content. The problem is that there are thousands of disabled uploads and, anyway, there's no hurry.
