Thirty four short stories by Ernest Favenc (1845-1908), English-born Australian explorer, poet and author. In his later years he wrote many short stories, possibly as many as 300, all fairly short as they were published in newspapers. Three volumes were published in his lifetime, barely making a dent in his output.

The range of genres is considerable: he had a taste for macabre, horror, and supernatural; also humour, and adventure. They are all set in Australia, very much of the late 19th century, when there were still vast blank spaces on the map, and bush myths and legends abounded.

Favenc (the name of is Huguenot origin) also wrote several novels, and a volume of poetry.

There is a provisional bibliography, provisional because the total number of short stories collected in this and the previous 3 volumes barely amounts to 100, and there are many more still to be collected.
