I hope I will be forgiven for posting in English, but I have only about six words of German and would like help with German names whose surnames begin with von - like Elizabeth von Arnim.

In the phone books of German speaking countries would Elizabeth von Arnim be sorted as von Arnim, Elizabeth? Or Arnim, Elizabeth von?

Is the von usually spelled von, or Von?
I haven't seen a phone book in ages.
