Is the eBookwise still viable ?

I've got two of them, haven't used them since the company dropped support for them.

I'd like to be able to transfer books from my hard drive to the device via USB. The software seems to either be unavailable or 5-6 years old. Not even sure if it would work with Windows 7. Would be happy to use Linux, if that is an option.

I do have Calibre, I assume it can convert non-native 1150 formats to something usable.

Any help, much appreciated, otherwise the two 1150's are just paper weights and soon to be consigned to the dumpster.

No interest in buying books from ebookwise, nothing there I want.

Although I seem to be using the Literati a bit more, I still use mine. I do have a functioning copy of the librarian software. If I didn't, I'd just drag n drop files to the SmartMedia card. Finding a card reader can be a bit of a hassle, they aren't as common as they used to be.

There is a guy dumping the last of eBookwise's stock on eBay, he wants $100 for 20 units.

Please don't dump them before letting me know.

Are you still able to use the personal document server at the ebookwise site? I tried a few months ago and I couldn't get it to connect to the device. I had to get a special card reader just to put books on it. I never use it anymore. I had given it to my daughter but she doesn't use it either. Anyway, I'm wondering if the personal document server is working for anyone.

Because I have a working copy of the librarian software, I've not used the personal document server in a long time. I may have broken my access to the server when I registered my 2150 which can reach the server but since I don't remember how to get books there anyhow, I have not tried it in quite a while.

If you don't want to use a card reader, impbuild will create books for your reader and impserve will get books on your reader. Look for a sticky topic at the top of the eBookwise page or go here, http://ebookutils.berlios.de/wiki/

That's good to know. Because it is such a huge hassle to get things into the right format, I am going to get rid of mine eventually. I just need to remember to take pictures of it.

I still use the Personal Document Server. But, what I use more often, is:

www.my.ebooksystem.net for *.imp & *.txt

Are you saying the ebookwise 1150 can display txt files? I was under the impression it could only read .imp.

Yes.
*.imp, *.txt, at www.my.ebooksystem.net

*.txt, *.rtf at Personal Document Server. PDS can take other formats also, if I'm not mistaken. I use eBook Publisher to create .imps usually.

The 1150 can only display .imp files. The ebooksystem server at https://my.ebooksystem.net/personal/default.asp (note that the www. is not needed) can create .imp files from a .txt file and download it onto the 1150.

I'm not sure but I think that's the server my 2150 talks to when I hit online bookshelf.

Right now, I get an error when I try to upload a file but the 2150 can see the server. I can't find the 1150 which bothers me so I'm hitting submit for now and going on a treasure hunt.

I found it! And the big one is a REB1200, not a GEB2150. I get so confused...

I sent an email to support about the error right after my last post. I just received a reply that it's been fixed. Never seen customer support that is that responsive.
