Twelve short stories. Some are tales of folks interacting with old friends and new, and dealing with the intricacies of daily life. Several relate encounters with the supernatural and the uncanny. The titular story, “The Flying Teuton”, is just such a tale of the uncanny, about a “ghost ship” during WWI — it is perhaps Alice Brown’s best-known story, and certainly one of the most discussed in its day, hailed by critics as one of the best stories of the year.

Alice Brown (December 5, 1856 – June 21, 1948) was an American novelist, short-story writer, poet, and playwright. She was one of the last authors of New England local color, a movement which began with Rose Terry Cooke and Harriet Beecher Stowe and reached its highest popularity during the careers of Mary E. Wilkins Freeman and Sarah Orne Jewett. Her popular New England tales were mostly published from 1895 to 1910. Her popularity waned after the turn of the 20th century, although she continued to publish until 1935.

The Flying Teuton, by Alice Brown (1856-1948), was first published in 1918. This ebook is in the public domain where copyright is “Life+70” or less, and in the USA.
