New from ReAnimus Press: SENSE OF WONDER by Gardner Dozois

https://ReAnimus.com/1589 (available in both ebook and paperback [$19.99, 531 pages])
Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07D1DL89S

SENSE OF WONDER presents an epic set of short story reviews by a legend in the business--all of Gardner Dozois' reviews from his Locus Magazine column from 2009-2017. If you wanted to know how one of the best editors and writers thinks about short stories and what makes them tick, who would you want to know from? Gardner Dozois! Gardner won more Hugo awards for editing than anyone, for his incredible work with Asimove's Science Fiction Magazine--where stories he selected and edited won tons more awards. He won awards for his own writing as well, and created a huge number of anthologies, including the reknowned "Year's Best Science Fiction" series. There's no better choice than getting an education from a profound mind like that. We mourn his recent passing, but his insights are timeless. A must-have for any writer or fan of the field.

(Aptly, SENSE OF WONDER was reviewed [positively] in Locus in November 2018.)

New from ReAnimus Press: BEING GARDNER DOZOIS by Michael Swanwick

Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07D25G4B9

It's terribly sad that Gardner was recently taken from us, so if you want insight into one of the best editors there was, who would you want to know about? Gardner Dozois! Gardner won more Hugo awards for editing than anyone, for his incredible work with Asimove's Science Fiction Magazine--where stories he selected and edited won tons more awards. He won awards for his own writing as well, and created a huge number of anthologies, including the reknowned "Year's Best Science Fiction" series. There's no better choice than getting insights into a mind like that.

BEING GARDNER DOZOIS is an in-depth look at what made him tick; a facinating interview with his friend (and notable SF author) Michael Swanwick, that describes Gardner's thoughts on writing, his obsessions, collaborations, and his influence in the world of Fantasy and Science Fiction.

A must for anyone who wants to get published (or get published more... or win awards... or win more awards), or anyone who loves the science fiction field.

Introducing, from ReAnimus Press: DREAMS OF THE TECHNARION by Sean McMullen

image »

https://ReAnimus.com/1582 (available in both ebook and paperback [$15.99, 336 pages])
Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0783MWC2K

Hugo finalist and steampunk master Sean McMullen presents ten science fiction stories that skirt the borderlands of reality--and most of the science is not fiction.

And this volume includes: OUTPOST OF WONDER - SF in Australia 1832--2017

Based on the research for Sean's twenty-six books and articles on Australian SF, this is the amazing, heroic, sometimes amusing and occasionally horrifying story of nearly two centuries of science fiction by Australians. How many Hugo Awards has Australian SF brought home? How many Oscars? Which Australian novels may have saved the world? Who wrote and staged a feminist space opera in 1958? More Australian SF has been published since 2000 than in the rest of its history put together, but what are its prospects for the future?

If you want answers, you will have to keep reading.

Introducing, from ReAnimus Press: THE STARCROSSED by Ben Bova - $3.99

image »

https://ReAnimus.com/1466 (available in both ebook and paperback [$12.99, 264 pages])
Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00VELE758

A stinging SFnal, futuristic satire on the TV industry, based on Ben's and Harlan Ellison's involvement in a real TV series, THE STARLOST.

(Bova dedicates the novel to "Cordwainer Bird", the pen name Harlan Ellison used when he did not want to be associated with a television or film project.)

Television in the 21st century, where ratings are everything... Physicist Bill Oxford has just developed a device that can make the networks even more powerful, and now he is caught in the most vicious battle of the future: the ratings war!

Harlan's script won a major award (though his script isn't what was filmed!); and ReAnimus Press has the novel edition of his award-winning version (PHOENIX WITHOUT ASHES).

A delightful bit of fun in the future, poking fun at those who should be poked.

A cubed--Controversial Tales of the Fantastic from Alaska, Africa, and Asia--from an award-winning author

Sometimes the most alien and exotic places are right here on Earth in our modern era. Journey along with three amazing science fiction & fantasy stories from each "A" part of the world (for nine total), including some major award finalists--all with some aspect of controversy.

The controversies range from cultural situations in the areas themselves and from the intersection of cultures, to inherently controversial topics, to controversies surrounding the very writing, publication, or award standings of the stories themselves.

All the stories are fantastic -- in both senses of the word, "excellent quality" and "science fiction & fantasy." All the controversies ultimately enrich the stories, and you'll feel enriched for having explored the exotic landscapes within.

George Guthridge is a Nebula and Hugo Award finalist, and winner of the Stoker Award.

Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07P1J2F9S

Newly discovered, never-before published novel from a master writer!

Flor Ortega has lived many lives. She has been the estranged daughter of an American former CIA agent, a secret sister, a poet, a lover, a passionate revolutionary. She strikes passionate loyalty into the hearts of some, and hatred into the hearts of others, but one one thing is certain: No one who crosses her path is left unchanged.

Her ailing father orders two of his people to retrieve her from Mexico, archeology professor Thomas Bryan Avila and lawyer Caroline Warren--who find her missing, taken by a military squad calling themselves "La Noche Triste."

The two soon find themselves entangled in the complex political, religious, and geographic history of the region. For one it is home, the place of his birth and of his beloved archeological dig. For the other it is a land more foreign than she had imagined. Together they must find Flor Ortego before it's too late, but to do that they must answer an important question: Who is Flor Ortega? Or, perhaps more importantly, what is she?

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Alfred Coppel was born in Oakland, and served as a fighter pilot in the United States Army Air Forces during World War II. After his discharge, he started his career as a writer. Marin and writing for a variety of pulp magazines and later "slick" publishers. Though writing in a variety of genres, including action thrillers, he is known for his science fiction short stories and novels.

In the distant future, fire and ice can lead to revolution...

In Michael grows a burning passion and he hopes he might see Jacinta again after their rescue. She has other hopes, for a life in space. Regardless of what either might want, Jacinta's uncle, the powerful head of the Consortium and enforcer of the Consortium's rigid, repressive social rules, would never allow them to even see each other... Or would he? Was there a hungry fire in Jacinta's and Michael's hearts that could melt a whole planet of ice?

New from ReAnimus Press: PAINT YOUR FACE ON A DROWNING IN THE RIVER by Craig Strete

image »

https://ReAnimus.com/1597 (available in both ebook and paperback [$11.99, 133 pages])
Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07MCGCKFF

Tall Horse and Joseph Little Eagle are rivals for Nila, with whom they have grown up. In a poignant love story, they face not only the normal conflicts of a triangle situation, but are torn by the pressures innate in reservation life--the fierce loyalty to their own as against the lure of the outside. And, in a sense, it is the outside world that decides their fate.

The story of the young people runs concurrently with the drama of Tall Horse's grandparents, Old Cat and his wife. To them the ultimate tragedy is Tall Horse's views of the outside world. "We are not afraid of dying," the old woman says, "we are afraid of dying out."

Craig Strete, himself a native American, gives us a compelling look at life on an Indian reservation. He writes with passion and humor, and his characters speak urgently in voices that must be heard.

The poetic title of this vivid, sensitive novel is an Ojibway saying. It means, "You are killing me."
"Compellingly orchestrated... high in tension and charged with interacting emotion"
