Penrod Jashber continues the tales of Penrod and his friends, Sam, Herman, and Verman. Penrods hero-worship veers away from bandits and outlaws, and becomes focused on Private Detectives. He takes on the persona of George B. Jashber, Detective, and enlists his friends help in exposing Mr. Dade (his sisters new suitor) as a crook. To use that hackneyed (but suitable) old phrase, hilarity ensues.* * * *
Newton Booth Tarkington (July 29, 1869 May 19, 1946) was an American novelist and dramatist, best known for his novels
The Magnificent Ambersons (1918) and
Alice Adams (1921) [Winners of the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction, 1919 and 1922 respectively].
Much of Tarkingtons work consists of satirical and closely observed studies of the American class system and its foibles. In the 1910s and 1920s, Tarkington was regarded as the great American novelist, as important as Mark Twain. His works were reprinted many times, were often on best-seller lists, won many prizes, and were adapted into other media.
First published in 1929. The text of this book is in the public domain where copyright is Life+70 or less. Illustrations by Gordon Grant (18751962) have been omitted due to copyright restrictions.
=======
Many years ago (2012/13), I posted many of Tarkington's books. This one had to be taken offline due to illustrations still under copyright. I thought I would bring this title back, even though I had to omit the illustrations.
Hope you get a few giggles!
