Philadelphia, 1918: Three friends—brave, confident Viola Trenmore, clever but shy Robert Drayton, and Viola’s strong and hot-tempered brother, Terry—discover a mysterious powder that transports them two hundred years into the future. The Philadelphia of 2118 is no longer a bustling metropolis but instead a completely isolated city recovering from an unknown disaster.

The society is dictatorial, and there is an annual death challenge where the survivor is deemed fit to rule with the Woman dictator.

The three friends are in the challenge, must survive, and return to their own time.

61,000 words. I made the cover using a detail from the cover illustration of the original magazine serialisation.
