A confused swagman stumbles into a country pub carrying a billy full of gold coins, and claims he found them in a derelict mansion, guided by a dream. This is big news in the one-pub town, and a visiting city newspaperman on a holiday; and bigger news to the owner of the abandoned mansion, who some years ago had built a new a house couple of miles away.

It's also big news to the police, specially when the swagman is found murdered in an outbuilding of the old mansion.

The newspaperman, and the police, investigate; but it takes another mansion-induced dream to resolve the case entirely.

Slight touches of the occult, including two spiritualists...
